The pain in both of my elbows went from being tolerable to unbearable and debilitating. The groove between bones on the inside of my elbow was painful to the touch with sharp pain radiating all the way down the arm with certain movements. I was unable to pick up my 42lb son or dispense soap from a hand pump without sharp pain.
Definition of tendonitis (Mayo Clinic, 2002): Tendinitis is inflammation or irritation of a tendon — any one of the thick fibrous cords that attaches muscle to bone. The condition causes pain and tenderness just outside a joint. While tendinitis can occur in any of your body’s tendons, it’s most common around your shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees and heels.

Typical course of treatment for tendonitis entails rest and OTC anti-inflammatories. In my early twenties, I was treated with a 3 month course of ibuprofen for tendonitis in my knee. The joint specialist informed me, “It takes a long time for tendonitis to inflame to the point you seek medical advice and also takes just as long to heal.” He was correct, it was months before I found relief and even now in my 40’s still have occasional bouts where the same knee is inflamed.
A long history of allergies to non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) sent me on a quest for another method to decrease inflammation in the body. I consulted with my best friend who happens to be an incredible Physician Assistant providing compassion end of life care. After 20 years of friendship, she understands my health history and desire for a holistic approach to my healthcare. She did a little digging and stated that improving the circulation through the joint was one of the quickest ways to heal. The inflammation causes pressure on surrounding tendons and blood flow can be restricted. There was this cute little machine similar to a blood pressure cuff that you could put your arms in and it would improve circulation for $115. I asked, “Will my insurance cover that?” 🤔 Hmmm? Do I really need a machine to help me improve my circulation? I suppose I don’t, but I bet that machine works really well for an obese society. I got back into yoga figuring it would provide excellent circulation through my joints. Yoga worked well on more than one level and in more than one area.
With the outside painful to the touch, I found relief within minutes after applying the little jar of 💫 Magic. Each of the ingredients in this lotion contain anti-inflammatory properties. They have a synergistic effect working to reduce inflammation from the outside in. I do not have research to back up exactly “how” this lotion works but have consistent anecdotal evidence of its ability to reduce pain and inflammation. The lotion worked well for pain caused by touching the area. I still needed to augment this course of therapy if I was going to fully recover.
Cannabis is legal in Massachusetts. A local store called Humble Bumble in Methuen MA sold CBD oil. A trip to the store and a discussion with the incredibly warm owner sent me home with Charlottes Web Everyday Plus. I placed a full dropper full of CBD oil under my tongue (sublingual) for ten seconds and swallowed. I substituted the CBD oil as my course of treatment in place of ibuprofen. This worked well for sharp pains and pain that radiated down my arms. I used the CBC oil daily for a period of 8 weeks.
I also took Boswellia Curcumin supplements. These are made with frankincense and turmeric proven through substantial research to reduce inflammation. The brand I recommend is “Dr Olivia Naturals Curcumin Complex” which can be found on amazon. I love this supplement and feel it would offer much to many people for improving health and reducing chronic pain. This worked well for pain and decreasing inflammation.
In the last week or so of my treatment plan (8 weeks total), I added one drop of Copaiba essential oil under my tongue (sublingual) alongside the CBD oil. Copaiba is one of the ingredients in the little jar 💫 Magic specifically for its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to enhance the properties of oils it is mixed with. CBD oil and Copaiba essential oil both work on the body’s endocannabinoid system. This was the key to recovery. This combination not only removed the pain but it also seemed to work well for an acute bronchitis that had been nagging me.
